Shivnarine Chanderpaul cuts loose to give Lancashire upper hand against Nottinghamshire
24 August 2010 By Neil Hallam at Trent Bridge
If any ground can claim to be the natural habitat of the swing bowler, then it is probably Trent Bridge, where the new stands often create the sappy atmosphere in which England's supreme wobbler James Anderson plunged Pakistan to defeat with 11 wickets here earlier this month.
When Notts needed the ball to move around to disturb Lancashire's mostly serene progress, however, it rarely did any such thing, enabling the top four batsmen to pass 50 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul to fall only eight runs short of a third century in five championship games wearing the Red Rose.
With a blustery wind keeping the air moving, there was little to encourage Notts' seamers and when Andre Adams induced a couple of false strokes, openers Paul Horton and Tom Smith were both spilled at first slip, ironically by their former team-mate Steve Mullaney.
West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored his second century of the English County season to put Lancashire in a strong position at the end of the third day of its Division One match against Kent in Canterbury yesterday. Chanderpaul, who was out for a golden duck in the first innings, made a vital 120 as Lancs set Kent 339 to win on a challenging pitch. The Guyanese left-hander began the day unbeaten on 23 and went on to face 234 balls, hitting 14 fours in 328 minutes. Lancashire had managed a 17-run first innings lead but looked vulnerable at 52 for three before Chanderpaul, batting at number four, got to together with Steven Croft (43) and then Gareth Cross (50) to add 78 and 89 for the fourth and fifth wickets respectively.
Pick Chanderpaul to Play in the Champions League Tournament in SA
Monday 9th August 2010

As Guyana prepares to travel to South Africa, following its thrilling victory in the Caribbean T20, it is incumbent on the selectors to choose the best possible team to represent the country. Guyana’s participation in the 2010 Champions League Twenty20 tournament, scheduled for Sept 10th to 26th, represents an historic opportunity for this country (its first international cricket match outside the WI), and the selection of Shivnarine Chanderpaul to the team should be automatic!
Guyana’s cricket captain, Ramnaresh Sarwan, has reportedly asked for Chanderpaul to be included into the team. Additionally, while Chanderpaul is playing county cricket in Lancashire, he has made it clear that he wants to and is ready to represent his country in the Champions League tournament, if asked to do so.
While West Indies cricket has long been in a state of decline, the exception has been its few world-class batsmen like Chanderpaul, Chris Gayle, and Sarwan. Chanderpaul’s value, however, goes beyond simply being a great batsman. He is an experienced leader, in addition to being a teammate who can be counted on to contribute to the well being of all, especially the mentoring of younger players. Thus, choosing Chanderpaul to be a part of the team that goes to the Champions League Twenty20 tournament would reap multiple intangible benefits for this young Guyanese team.

The prolific West Indian left hander, who hit 92 on debut in last week’s draw at Durham, helped his side recover from 41-3 on the opening day of their County Championship match with a fine 118 off 217 balls.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul will be honoured on Sunday for his outstanding contributions in his profession, as part of the Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) activities to commemorate the 172nd anniversary of the arrivals of Indians in Guyana.
In a statement, the IAC said it is customary for it to recognise the contributions made by Indo-Guyanese to the development of Guyana in various fields.
Lancashire sign Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Simon Katich
Thursday, 22 April 2010
Lancashire have signed Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Simon Katich as replacement overseas players for Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara.
Sangakkara had been due to arrive after the World Twenty20 but now has further international commitments.
Katich will arrive in June, with Chanderpaul available from mid-July until the end of the season.
South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince is the current overseas player at Old Trafford, with Australia international Katich filling the void when he leaves.
A workmanlike century from Man of the Match Shivnarine Chanderpaul guided the West Indies to a comprehensive 208-run win over Canada in their Supreme Ventures Sports Betting (SVSB) Jamaica Cricket Festival one-day international clash at Sabina Park yesterday.
Playing as an opener as the West Indies seek to find a winning combination ahead of this month's ICC World Twenty20 championship, Chanderpaul scored 101 off 121 balls as the home team, after winning the toss, posted 316-4 off their allotted 50 over
